How often should you deep clean your dishwasher?
Deep clean the dishwasher every 3 months, and rinse its filter once a month.
Why it matters
Food residue, grease and limescale build up in the filter, spray arms and door seal. The result is a musty smell, cloudy glasses and a machine that cleans worse and uses more water and energy.
How to do it
- Take out the bottom rack, remove the filter and wash it under warm water with a soft brush.
- Check the spray arm holes for food or limescale and clear them with a toothpick.
- Wipe the door seal and edges with a cloth and a little vinegar solution.
- Run an empty hot cycle with a dishwasher cleaner or a cup of white vinegar on the bottom of the machine.
- Leave the door ajar afterwards so the inside dries and odours don’t settle.
